Natural skincare trend is growing in popularity. Organic products are the top chosen ones, often having devoted a separate area in a store. However, it takes more to natural skin care than buying personal care products with “organic” inscriptions on them. What should you know about natural skin care?
Mother Nature has gifted us with everything we need to take good care of our looks – floral waters, oils, essential oils and plant extracts. We just have to learn how to make use of these tools in our daily beauty routine. Here are 10 rules of natural skin care that should be memorized. Here they are!
How to improve skin in a natural way?
1. Take to natural vegetable oils
Vegetable oils are the core of nature-inspired skin treatments. They are proven to be a rich source of nutrients that can’t be found in other products: precious fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, phytosterols, squalane and many, many more. What’s the most amazing about natural oils is that they can be used as a replacement for:
- face cream
- makeup remover
- makeup base
- UV filter
- and many more
2. Choose the products with short list of ingredients
If something is natural, it doesn’t mean that it’s preservative-free. In most cases, the formulas for all-natural products aren’t long so they include only the most essential substances that skin needs to remain in a good condition. Few know that we have got many natural substances that are commonly used as preservatives. The good news is that such substances are also able to nourish skin.
3. Use oil to take makeup off
You want to use waterproof cosmetics but you aren’t sure which product could help you remove them from your face? Use vegetable oils – e.g. a blend of castor oil, almond oil and argan oil. They are perfect at removing even the most stubborn grime, deal with excess sebum, cleanse and nourish the skin. Simply put, they leave skin perfectly clean, moisturized and free from irritations.
4. Use a face serum before applying a face cream
Natural doesn’t mean less effective. It’s worth introducing a good face serum into a daily skin ritual. Such skincare products are highly concentrated and penetrate skin deeply to repair and nourish it from within. Obviously, various face serums are designed for handling a particular task:
- hyaluronic acid face serum fixes dry skin
- retinol face serum rejuvenates skin
- vitamin c face serum brightens up pigmentation spots
- face serum enriched with coenzyme Q10 improves mature skin
The most important thing is to choose the face serum that is formulated with just a few ingredients, is natural and doesn’t contain any unwanted substances.
5. Don’t wash the face only with water
Surprisingly, water dehydrates skin. Although this sounds ridiculous, because we supply the body with water when we want to moisturize it, it’s worth realizing that washing your face with water doesn’t improve skin’s moisture. Skin needs humectants such as hyaluronic acid that binds water molecules inside.
6. Cleanse the skin in a few steps
The majority of skin problems are caused by the insufficient skin cleansing, which is why it’s worth doing multi-stage deep skin cleansing. For a start, begin with removing color cosmetics using a vegetable oil and a milk cleanser. Then, follow with a micellar lotion. After that, use a gel cleanser and finish with a skin toner to restore the right pH to skin.
7. Swap skin toner for a herbal water
Those widely-available commercial face toners don’t always serve our skin right because such products often contain harmful alcohols. Is there any alternative to a skin toner? Of course, there is – herbal or floral water such as rose water or witch-hazel water both being able to balance skin’s pH.
8. Neither scratch nor pop the zits
The fewer times you touch the face, the better for the skin. It can’t be denied, our hands are covered with bacteria that cause acne when transported to the face. And this in turn leads to other skin care mistakes such as popping the pimples and scratching them. Once you break the skin, you open the way for bacteria to make the inflammation more serious, which later expands to affect other areas of the skin.
9. Use UV protection
What harms our skin more than skin care mistakes is resigning from sun protection. UV rays are proven to have a negative impact on the skin’s appearance. Sun exposure causes pigmentation, irritations and makes our skin age faster. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to avoid photo-ageing, provided that you use the right products, such as:
- vitamin c face serum that shields the skin
- natural raspberry seed oil
- face cream enriched with SPF
10. Look for natural solutions
If you have problems with acne, use either castor oil or sulfur soap instead of running to a drugstore for some anti-acne preparations. If you have pigmentation spots, try some vitamin C products instead of exposing the face to a laser treatment. Nature has solutions to almost all skin concerns but the very solutions aren’t so obvious. Therefore, if you want to enjoy having flawless skin, dig a little bit deeper.
